How to Hunt With a Range Finder

A range finder is a great way to improve accuracy on long-range hunting shots. These devices are especially great when staking out hunting spots; using laser beams and an internal clock, they quickly calculate the distance between you and your target.

1. First: Choose your range finder

   Although they can cost a bit, you should get a high-quality range finder to see your target in detail; this ensures a more accurate aim on the part of the animal you would like to shoot. such as the neck, heart or the head. For the more serious hunter, a long-distance device with a range of more than five hundred yards is recommended as well. If you would like to get the most up-to-date visuals on your prey before you shoot, get a gun or cross-bow that already has a range finder attached to it.

2. Second: Use your range finder

   Aim the range finder toward your prey and push the trigger pad on your device. Mark down the distance between you and your prey, including any other variables that could effect your shot. To avoid fines and legal issues, you need to verify that the animal you are hunting is in season.

3. Third: Secure a steady view point

   Once you know what you want to harvest, quickly set up a hunting stand where you have the most unobstructed view of your target. Cover yourself and your stand in camouflage to keep animals from noticing you and running away.

4. Fourth: Calculate your aim

   Determine how you should aim your hunting device at your prey based on the reading on the device. Adjust your scope accordingly; if the distance is more than a few hundred yards, consider factors like "bullet drop" before you make your final decision.

5. Fifth: Fire!

   Fire your gun at your prey.
